Lily Marie Evans
"I can’t pretend anymore.
You’ve chosen your way,
I’ve chosen mine."
"I can’t pretend anymore.
You’ve chosen your way,
I’ve chosen mine."
The Character
Name: Lily Mary Evans.
Nicknames: Oh goodness. The girl has been called so many different things (some nice, some rather cruel) that it’s not even funny. A lot of friends call her Lils or Lil. Other common nicknames she hears includes Flower, Red, Lilykins, Lily Pad, Filthy Little Mudblood, etc.
Birthdate: January 30, 1960.
Year: Seven.
Gender: Female.
Sexuality: Straight.
Blood Status: Muggleborn.
House: Gryffindor.
Canon or Original: Canon.
The Appearance
Hair: Lily’s hair is probably the most noticeable thing about her. She has thick, curly red hair that falls a few inches past her shoulder. People often draw attention to her red hair when her temper flairs up. She usually wears it down and just pulls a few strands back so that her hair is out of her face. Sometimes she wears it up in a ponytail or she braids it, but she rarely does anything very special with it. Lily used to hate her hair with a fiery passion, but now she sort of has a love-hate relationship with it. Her hair is part of who she is, and she honestly wouldn’t change it if she could. Not that she wants to her children with her red hair.
Face: Lily has a very expressive face. She has brilliant almond shaped emerald green eyes that are easily her best feature in most people’s opinions. While often people couldn't tell you an acquaintance’s eye color, few ever forget the color of Lily's. Her eyes, as they often do, usually show her emotion better than any other part of her body. They're usually filled with compassion and kindness, such as when she's tutoring a peer or helping a first year find the way to their next class. Often though, especially when Potter and Black are around, they just as easily display her fiery temper. If looks could kill hers would be a nuclear weapon. If you know her well, you can usually tell exactly what she's feeling at any given moment.
Body & Style: Lily’s height is about average standing at 5’6, but she can make herself appear taller when she needs to look intimidating. The redhead has long legs which only make her look even taller. She weighs about 135 pounds. She doesn’t work out, but she takes care of herself and she’s always running around getting things done or patrolling the school so she’s fairly in shape even though she’s not athletic. Like most redheads, Lily has pale skin. She never tans. If she spends too much time out in the sun she burns unless she has sun block. Sometimes she burns even if she does.
Lily wears her school uniform most of the time. Her uniform is always in perfect regulation and looks very neat and tidy. For the most part she likes the uniform, but she often wishes the skirts were at least a few inches longer. She likes not having to worry about what she wears or what other people are wearing. Out of uniform Lily, being a muggleborn, would fit in at any muggle location. When it’s warm out she’ll wear shorts and sundresses. During the winter she likes to wear simple blue jeans with sweaters.
Distinguishing Features: Lily Evans is not one to blend into the crowd. Nearly everything about her stands out. From her hair, to her eyes, to her height, to the very way she carries herself. Lily's looks certainly aren't the classic 'beautiful girl' sort, and if she didn't take care of herself or she wasn't... well, her she might not be a very pretty girl at all. However, she's attracted more than her fair share of guys while at Hogwarts. Guys either think she’s gorgeous or… well… not. She is very proud and she always stands up straight and she doesn’t back down when she’s being teased or taunted.
Face Claim: Jenny Lewis.
The Magic
Wand: Willow, 10 ¼ inches long, swishy, excellent for Charms work.
Mirror of Erised: Well Lily’s never looked into the Mirror of Erised of course, but if she did she would somehow see a very peaceful world where she can raise her happy, little family (four kids, two girls, two boys) without having to live in any sort of fear.
Dementor: Lily has a few bad memories that would flash through her head if she were near a dementor, but the worst would be when Severus called her a mudblood after the DADA owl. Technically it wasn’t the worst thing that anyone had ever done to her, but it was different because Severus had always been her rock and one of the few who actually understood her. It also made her realize how dark the world she had grown to love was, and she knew that someday when she was grown up she would have to do something to fight the Death Eaters.
Patronus: Lily’s patronus is a doe. She was a bit surprised by it when she first managed to perform the charm in DADA back in fifth year. (Black howled with laughter although she hasn’t the faintest idea why, stupid prat.) Her friends assured her though that it really was the perfect fit for her. Does were kind and gentle and they took care of their young fawns. Not to mention they seem like they’d be good listeners. Of course, they joke, Lily doesn’t have their quiet nature by any means of the imagination.

Personality:
Lily Marie Evans is quite the interesting person as far as her personality goes. She’s very smart, especially when it comes to her two best subjects: Charms and Potions. The redhead is a natural problem solver and school work has always come easily to her. However (unlike stupid Potter) she doesn’t just know everything without even trying. Lily spends a great deal of time on her studies and her work is always done far before the due date. She’s extremely organized and responsible making her an ideal prefect. Lily’s work and possessions are always very neat, almost freakishly so. She always does everything she’s supposed to and more. If something needs to be done Lily will make sure it gets done. Of course when something needs to be done she can get irritatingly bossy. Lily always goes above and beyond what the professors ask for and she’s always the first to volunteer to answer a question. Because of this many of her peers call her a know-it-all and an over-achiever. With all of these traits many people are initially surprised that Lily wasn’t sorted into Ravenclaw. Of course once you get to know her there should be very little doubt that Gryffindor is where she belongs. Lily very rarely breaks any rules, and when she does it’s usually only because of a great amount of peer pressure. She’s a firm believer that rules were created for a reason and anyone who thinks they’re above them is just arrogant. A few people have told her she’s a bore and she doesn’t know how to let loose and have some fun. This is unfortunately far closer to being the truth than not.
For those who really know Lily Evans the first words to pop into their head when asked to describe Lily probably wouldn’t be smart or responsible but rather kind or compassionate. It is very unusual for Lily to be mean to anyone (other than Potter) without just cause. She’s normally very kind and caring when she’s dealing with others. Younger students often find her very approachable because she never makes anyone feel stupid for asking a question or annoyed that they are wasting her valuable time. She’s very patient and helpful. She’s always willing to do something for someone without even being asked, and she always seems sincerely happy that she’s able to help. Lily is an excellent listener and she can usually give pretty decent advice. What really makes her easy to talk to is that she never seems to be judging you and she’s very accepting of just about anything. Something about her is very comforting and almost motherly to some people and they can’t help but spill their secrets and cry on her shoulder. Lily sees the best in people even when they cannot see it themselves. The Gryffindor always seems very confident and sure of herself even when she’s not. She’s decently comfortable with whom she is, but she really doesn’t think she’s very special at all. Lily seems to be completely unaware of the presence she makes in a room. The girl is a natural leader and everyone knows it. She doesn’t follow the crowd, but she is who she is. Adults usually adore Lily and find her very charming. She’s usually a very strong person. She’s either in a cheery mood or she’s angry for the most part. She’s not one to mope about something and act depressed. She’s been described as vivacious more than once in her life.
She might be kind and sweet most of the time, but that can change in an instant. Lily might be the first person you want to go to if Slughorn assigned you an essay and you’re hopelessly lost or if you just got a letter that your childhood pet died. However, the redhead is the last person you want to catch you pulling some elaborate prank. It will be the end of the prank and you will most likely feel her wrath, especially if you’re a Marauder. Lily has a bit of a temper… or a rather bad temper if you know the right buttons to press. Nothing irritates her more than a person who thinks they’re better than someone else. Unless, of course, that person also chooses to tear other people down simply because they can. Lily detests bullies no matter what form they come in. Lily will stick up for someone regardless of who the attacker is. She doesn’t care if they’re an evil Slytherin or a popular guy who just wants to make his friends laugh or her best friend in the world. Nobody is above treating others with respect and she can get rather passionate about it. Lily is not one of those girls who need some big, strong man to defend her. Sh can hold her own ground and she gets rather irritated when someone thinks she needs rescuing. She generally lets insults directed towards her slide by. She knows that not all battles are worth fighting and getting upset will only encourage them. However, she can be very outspoken, and she sticks very strongly to her beliefs. The Gryffindor is very stubborn and once she has an idea stuck in her head it’s really hard to change her mind. She’s too proud for her own good and it’s difficult for her to ask for help or admit she was wrong.
The Background
Family Members:
• Charlie Evans. [father, muggle, doctor.]
• Beth Evans. [mother, muggle, housewife.]
• Petunia Evans. [sister, muggle, 19]
Residence: An upper-middle class neighborhood that’s near Spinner’s End and about an hour outside of Manchester.
History:
Charlie Evans and Beth Sawyer grew up next door to each other. They started off as play dates while their mothers drank coffee and jabbered on about everything that was going on in their lives. As they grew older they became best friends and they were almost inseparable. During school the relationship naturally developed into a romantic one. Charlie and Beth got married right before Charlie started medical school. Their first couple years of marriage were very hectic. Charlie had gotten a full scholarship, but they had to pay for their shoe box apartment and they were saving up to buy a house. Charlie worked on campus and Beth waitressed and worked in a clothing shop. Things got only more chaotic when Petunia was born. Beth didn’t mind though because all she really wanted to do was be a mother. She quit her waitressing job and took Petunia with her while she worked at the clothing shop. Once Charlie graduated they bought a cute little home about an hour outside of Manchester a few months before Lily was born. It was a very cold, very snowy day when Beth went into labor. The weather was terrible though and Charlie didn’t want to risk driving through the snow to get to a hospital, especially since he was a doctor. So their little redhead was born at their home in the middle of a snowstorm and they named her Lily Marie Evans.
Lily and Petunia were very close as children. Petunia loved being the oldest and Lily followed her big sister around like a puppy. She fondly referred to Petunia as “Tuney” because when she was little she couldn’t pronounce Petunia and the name sort of stuck. As they grew older Petunia began to feel like Lily was always overshadowing her. She wasn’t really imagining it though. Lily did overshadow her to be honest. It started with looks. Petunia looked very average with blondish brown hair and dull brown eyes and Lily’s looks were anything but average with her fiery red hair and brilliant green eyes. Petunia blended in, Lily stood out. People were always talking about how smart and charming Lily was. Adults were naturally very fond of her and Charlie and Beth never stopped talking about her. Petunia noticed all of this (and blew it way out of proportion), but Lily never noticed a thing. She saw Petunia as her big sister and that was all that really mattered. Lily stood out in so many ways, but as she got older her parents began to realize that something was very different about Lily. Strange, unexplainable things would happen around her and as she got older she learned to control some of those things. She could make flowers open and close just by moving her hand and concentrating really hard. She could jump off the swing when she was going really fast and she wouldn’t get hurt. Her mother worried about her though and she would panic when Lily did something dangerous so Lily usually only used her powers at the local park or in the dark of night. Petunia always got upset when she did something unusual in the park because Petunia cared far too much what people would think if they saw her.
One day while they were playing in the park out of the blue came a strangely dressed, greasy haired child named Severus Snape. Severus was from Spinner’s End, a nearby lower-class neighborhood. He told Lily she was a witch. She didn’t believe him at first of course, but eventually he managed to convince her. He told her all he could about the magical world the two of them would be part of someday. The two quickly became best friends. At first Charlie and Beth thought it was just children playing. Beth was glad Lily had made a friend and she felt bad for the boy. Petunia hated him though and she tried to break the two up. Lily being friends with someone from Spinner’s End was very bad for her reputation. Then one day Professor McGonagall showed up at their doorstep and told them all about Hogwarts. Once she transfigured the teapot into a puppy they had no choice but to believe. Beth and Charlie were thrilled. Charlie insisted he had always known his Lils was special. Beth was excited that magic did indeed exist and her baby girl got to be part of it. Petunia was resentful and she stopped talking to Lily all together except to call her a freak. Lily was deeply hurt by Petunia, but she was excited about going off to Hogwarts to learn magic. She spent nearly all of her time reading her new textbooks and asking Severus questions about Hogwarts and the magic world.
She was nervous about being muggleborn, but Severus told her didn’t matter. Of course it did though. When she finally got to Hogwarts, after some deliberation by the sorting hat she was placed in Gryffindor. However Severus was placed in Gryffindor’s rival house, Slytherin. Labels made no difference to her though and they remained friends… for awhile anyways. Lily made lots of friends in her own house including Mary McDonald and Remus Lupin. She also, much to her dismay, managed to catch the eye of James Potter. Potter teased her at first and the fought all the time. One day he decided to ask her out. Much to his shock the redhead rejected him and he’s been asking her out ever since. Lily is convinced it’s all some joke to him though. Lily studied hard and excelled in her classes, especially Charms and Potions. Teachers adored her and she was constantly tutoring younger students. In her fifth year Lily was made a Gryffindor prefect. She was an obvious choice and it came to no surprise to anyone. Many of the Slytherin purebloods who had been tormenting her for years began to torment her even more because she had been put into a position of power. This, along with the fact they were getting older and their future was pressing, strained Lily and Sev’s friendship. Lily hated his supposed friends. Many of them were obviously future Death Eaters and Lily couldn’t tolerate that. She managed to hold on to their friendship until the day Severus called her a mudblood because she tried to stick up for him against Potter. Lily decided that it was over. She knew that it was an accident and that he hadn’t meant to hurt her. She also knew that he was aligning himself with people who were evil and wanted to eliminate people like her. She had chosen her way and apparently so had he. She hasn’t talked to Severus since the brief conversation she had with him the night after the incident as she calls it. She doesn’t hate him, but she knows that she has done the right thing no matter how much it hurt. Now she’s starting her seventh year at Hogwarts and she's just become Head Girl. She’s studying really hard so she can do well on her NEWTs. Her current plan is still to be a Healer, but she knows that if she had the opportunity to do something to fight against the Death Eaters and the Dark Lord she would do it in a heartbeat.

RP Example:She wanted to scream. How the hell did he do it? How could he sit there, so calm, with that stupid smug smirk on his face? Oh and that stupid hair ruffling thing. Something about that very gesture made her want to strangle him, and she wasn't a naturally violent person either. Although Potter and Black might beg to differ. She felt a twinge of guilt, but didn't let it show at all. She had been rather rude to him before he even said a word. She preached treating others with respect, and perhaps he had changed over the summer. Not that she'd let him now that she might think she had been wrong to yell so quickly. She had been taught from experience.
Very suddenly it seemed to hit her. He was telling the truth. Potter was Head Boy. Of course he could still be lying, but something in Lily knew that it was him. "What the hell was Dumbledore thinking?" she muttered to herself as she sat down on the bench across from him in shock . "Did he lose a bet or something?" she said aloud to herself again. After all the work she had done Dumbledore had just given away the other position to Potter? It almost made her feel like her position meant absolutely nothing. Why on earth would Potter get Head Boy? Okay, so maybe a lot of people looked up to him. Maybe Dumbledore, like Lily, had realized how loyal he was to his friends and thought that would be a good trait in a head boy. Maybe he was a natural leader. Even if he was bullying, arrogant, immature toe rag. So maybe she could see a tiny bit why. Not that she'd ever tell Potter that. However, if he ruined this for her she was going to literally kill him.
She stood up, her shock over, and a calm, angry sort of look replaced the shocked one on her face. She brushed the wrinkles out of her skirt and she was about to tell him exactly what she would do to him if he ruined this when the compartment door swung open. She immediately changed her look to one much more pleasant- her third emotion in less than a minute. Which of her prefects would it be? She hoped it was Lexy from Ravenclaw, or Remus. That would be nice.
Much to her dismay it was neither. In fact it was the last person she would have liked to her room while her emotions were so out of control due to stupid Potter. Of course he was 'shocked' that she was head girl. After all, she was nothing but a mud blood. Her temper had already been set off once today, and she had to bite her tongue from going after Malfoy now. Yelling at someone like Malfoy wasn't the same thing as yelling at Potter. Potter wasn't about to whip out his wand and start cursing her. She rolled her eyes. No leadership skills? Seriously? That was the worst insult he could come up with? Oh yes. She was so worried about her lack of leadership skills. That's what everyone said when they thought of her. Insulting her for her blood was a little tired too. She rolled her eyes and appeared virtually unaffected by what he said. "Malfoy," she said tucking her hair behind her ears and giving him a short nod. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of getting angry or upset.
Well lucky for Potter the idea of him being head boy just got a lot less bad when she considered one of the alternatives. She almost, almost, smiled at Potter's tone towards Malfoy. He wasn't cursing him... yet, and as long as he was pretending to be polite, no matter how fake it was, she was fine with it. Better him than her tell Malfoy what to do. When Potter told him to watch how he talked to her, Lily's eyes narrowed at Potter. "I don't need you to defend me Potter. I can stick up for myself, thank you very much," she told him.
