Emma Grace Sindt
"Carpe Diem."
"Carpe Diem."
The Character
Name: Emma Grace Sindt
Nicknames: Ems, Em
Birthdate: April 11, 1961.
Year: Six.
Gender: Female.
Sexuality: Straight.
Blood Status: Pure-ish.
House: Hufflepuff.
Canon or Original: Original.
The Appearance
Hair: Emma's hair has a reddish tint to it that varies from strawberry blonde to a darker brownish red. Her hair is curly and it's about shoulder length.
Face: Her eyes are a grey-blue. She's almost always has a smile on her face as she bounces around from one thing to another.
Body & Style: She looks healthy despite her MK. She's not under weight or especially pale and she doesn't have bags under her eyes. The only time she ever looks sick is right having an incident when she's in Saint Mungo's or the hospital wing. When she's not in her uniform she likes to wear bright colors, but clothes have to be comfortable too. There's no point in wearing heels and tight clothes she can't walk in. Life’s too short.
Distinguishing Features: Most of the time if you looked at Emma you could never have guessed that she was dying. She looks like any other teenage girl, happier than most actually. Most people would never expect she’s sick unless she collapses right in front of them.
Face Claim: Emma Grace.
The Magic
Wand: Phoenix feather, 10 in, white oak.
Mirror of Erised: Emma would see herself without MK.
Dementor: Many of the procedures she’s gone through and the nights of being sick and weak. Not to mention her nightmares of dying and leaving her mother all alone.
Patronus: Emma’s patronus is a dove. Her best memory is one of the few she has of before she was diagnosed with MK. The memory is nothing special. Just an ordinary day when her mother took her to the park and pushed her on the swings and Emma didn’t have a care in the world.

Strengths: Emma is friendly, outgoing, and kind. She cares about others more than herself. She's not afraid to be who she is, and she doesn't care what people think. Emma handles the fact she's dying very well.
Weaknesses: Emma is not always in touch with reality. She worries too much about other people and not enough about herself. She talks too much, and sometimes she tries to help people who don't want it.
Plans for the Future: Well Emma doesn't really have much of a future. She has less than a year to live. So Emma would like to enjoy what little time she has left, and make some sort of impact on someone. She also wants to know that her mother will be happy once she's gone.
Personality:
Emma is dying. She's known that she's dying since she was seven years old, and it's kind of formed the way she is. Emma is a very happy person most of the time. She's almost always laughing or smiling. She's happier than your average healthy person by a lot. She's very friendly and outgoing. For someone who doesn't have a chance of living more than a year, she's really optimistic. She's always looking on the bright side of things, and she always sees the very best in people. After all, she can be depressed about dying and hate people when she's dead. Emma doesn't do things she doesn't want to do. (Unless it will make things easier for someone she cares about.) She also does do the things she wants to do (as long as it doesn't hurt anybody), and she doesn't worry about what other people think about it. If she wants to go dancing in the rain or sit on the roof, she will. (Again, as long as no one gets hurt in the process.)
Even though she's the one dying she worries more about what is going to happen to other people, especially her mother once she dies. Emma is all her mum has, and she worries that once she actually dies her mother won't move on and she won't have anyone to take care of her. She also worries about friends, classmates, random people she sees in the hallway. She wants other people to live happily ever after even if she can't. She helps people when she can, and she's always there to give advice or just to listen. She tends to but into other people's problems sometimes, but if you tell her to back off she (usually) will.
Emma's mum spends as much time with her daughter as she can, but with all the medical bills and the general costs of living she had to work a lot. Emma could go with her to some of the homes, but not all of them. So Emma learned how to take care of herself quickly. She read a lot (and still does) so she knows a lot about different things, and she likes to have conversations about the most random things. She likes to learn, but she honestly doesn't try that hard in school. How much are her grades going to help her anyways? She also loves to paint. She doesn't paint nearly as much as she'd like to though. She also spends a lot of time gardening when she's home, and even in the green houses and a few little plants she has in her dorm. She loves the idea of giving something life.
The Background
Family Members:
Amelia "Amy" Sindt [Mother, tutor]
Aaron Daniels [Father, location unknown]
Residence: A flat in London just down the street from Saint Mungo’s chosen for it’s obvious convenience.
History:
Amelia Sindt was born to a halfblood witch who had been raised the muggle way and her mostly pureblood father. Amelia's parents were older when they had her, and they weren't really kid people anyways. So Amy grew up rather independent and very lonely. Her mother died in her final year at Hogwarts and her father died two years later. After graduation Amy became a private tutor for parents who didn’t want to send their young witches and wizards to be to a muggle school. Amelia was all alone in the world when she met Aaron Daniels at a Wizard Pub. He was from out of town. That's really all he told Amy. Amelia had already had a bit to drink, and Aaron was able to sweet talk her fairly easy. Once he said 'I know we just met, but I think I might be in love with you," Amy was sure she was finally going to get her happily ever after and she wouldn't be alone anymore.
When she woke up the next morning he was gone. She was sure he'd be back, but after a few weeks or so when he didn't call or show up she realized she'd been played. She thought she was back to being alone, but then she found out she was pregnant. Even though she knew she'd have to raise the baby all on her own Amelia couldn't be happier. She was a kid person. After all, she was a tutor for wealthy pureblood children to get their basics before they went to Hogwarts. Emma Grace Sindt was born one late night in April, and Amelia thought she finally had her perfect life. Many of the parents who hired her were perfectly fine with Emma coming to work with her as long as Amelia got her job done. Often she could leave Emma with the younger children or a house elf. Even if she couldn't, Emma was a very low maintenance baby. Amelia and Emma might not have had a lot of money, but Emma was exposed to the wealthier side of life often in her childhood. She got to attend many of the private lessons with the children her mother tutored so she learned things like proper etiquette, and she can fit in well with the wealthy.
Emma and Amelia's life almost seemed charmed until Emma was seven and she collapsed for the first time. Emma had always seemed like a very healthy child, and Amelia completely freaked out. She took Emma to Saint Mungo's and after a few hours of tests the healers diagnosed her with Maleokemia [MK]. They said that it was directly inherited from a parent who had it. Usually the father because females rarely made it out of their teen years. Males were affected far less, and it often wasn't deadly for many years. They were told that her attacks would be far apart at first, but they would get closer and closer together. As she got older they would be able to estimate how long she had to live. Most girls who got MK lived seven to twelve years after being diagnosed.
Amelia was heartbroken again. She almost fell to pieces when she found out she would out live her daughter and Emma would spend the rest of her life taking multiple potions a day and going in and out of Saint Mungo's until eventually she would die. It was Emma who helped Amy out of her depression. She got her back to work and her mother never broke down that badly (in front of her) again. Emma still hasn't forgotten what happened, and often it seems more like Emma is taking care of her mother. Emma was in and out of Saint Mungo's as a child. She hated being stuck in the hospital, but many of the Healers became like family to her. They adored the sweet, happy little girl. Emma much preferred to be home. She had her own little garden and she spent a lot of time painting.
They weren't sure if Emma would be able to go to Hogwarts. Amy wanted Emma to stay home where she could take care of her and try and keep her stress free. (Since stress made her attacks worse and happen more often.) One of the healers convinced Amelia that Emma should go to Hogwarts and live her life. She should get to be a real kid. Not just a kid who was dying. Besides, the Medi-Witch at Hogwarts was more than qualified to handle most attacks and to get her the Potions she had to take daily, and a Healer could be summoned within minutes if anything severe happened. So Emma got to go to Hogwarts and she loved it. She did okay in classes. If she had studied hard she would have excelled in her classes, but she never spent too much time studying. What did it matter if she made good grades or not? She made a lot of friends, and she was able to keep her secret from almost everyone. She doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for her.
Now Emma is starting her sixth year at Hogwarts. After her last attack, a rather severe one, her healers predicted she wouldn't make it another year. Amy wanted to convince her daughter to stay home her last year, and if she had asked Emma would have, but she knew Emma wanted to go back to school. Emma handles the fact she's dying exceptionally well. She's determined to live what life she has, and she hopes that she can make a difference in someone's life. She also tries her best to make sure her mum will be okay once she actually does die.
