"I don't want just want to be a footnote in someone else's happiness."
"I don't want just want to be a footnote in someone else's happiness."
The Character
Name: Lisette Andrea Vargas
Nicknames: Liz
Birthdate: 27th of September
Year: 16, (17 in late September)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight
Blood Status: Mixed
House: Ravenclaw
Canon or Original: Original
The Appearance
Hair: Her hair is long and dark. It has a natural curl to it, courtesy of her father. She likes to wear it down, often straight. There will be times though when she'll have in a ponytail or a braid. It's long and has the capability to be worn in any way, shape or form. She has no intention of cutting it anytime soon, save for a monthly trim for the split ends.
Face: She has a soft, round face, often described as 'angelic' or 'serene' despite her temper. She has high cheekbones and rosy cheeks that are capable of an easy blush. Lisette also has thin lips and a small, button nose. Her eyes and lips often carry a smile to show off her sunny mood. At the same time though, they can show her dark moods and her fury. Overall her face is a pleasant one to match her pleasant personality.
Body & Style: Although she was born and grew up in England, Lisette considers herself Spanish through and through. Her look is exotic, with subtle hints of the Mediterranean Spain - full of pride and yet attractive all the same. Lisette has dark, knowing eyes, a slender, small figure and honey-colored skin. Lisette is petite; she weighs only a mere 110 lbs and stands at a short 5'1. She is confident and it definitely shows in her eyes and face, along with that stubborn pride that can make her seem arrogant at times. She dresses in haute-couture robes with bold and dashing prints that are well cut with fine lines and silhouettes that accentuate her figure. She loves to accessorize and has a variety of tasteful footwear.
Distinguishing Features: Recently, Lisette has taken to wearing a variety of colorful threads that are fashioned into bracelets. They vary in color and style, but they serve one purpose: to hide a thin scar from when she lost control.
Face Claim: Catalina Sandino Moreno
The Magic
Wand: Redwood with essence of Siren’s Eyelash, 14 inches, useful for protective spells as well as for focus and discipline. It brings serenity to the user in the midst of chaos.
Mirror of Erised: The only thing Lisette sees is her mother, her father and stepfather.
Dementor: When a dementor comes around, Lisette gets a cold and clammy feeling. A chill overcomes her, so cold that nothing can shake it off. She has a short, vivid recollection of wandering around through a dark house as a child, crying out for her father and listening to her mother's cries from beyond a cold door. She also recalls a memory of a foggy cemetery, with a headstone bearing her mother's name. She recalls the frightening feeling of self-harming and how alive she felt when the razor touched her skin. She can hear the chanting prayers of people she doesn't even know, praying for her mother and stepfather's welcome into a heaven she doesn't believe in.
Patronus: Lisette's patronus is a red robin. The memory used to summoned it is one from when she was young. The memory is old, and it flashes through her head like an old home movie. She can almost see it in 3rd person: her father dancing in the backyard with her mother, giving her a twirl and a young girl in a pink dress laughing and shouting "Me next, papi! Me next!" before her father takes her into his arms and spins her until she, herself, feels dizzy.

Strengths: One of Lisette's biggest attributes is how friendly and approachable she is. Her kindness towards others tends to gain her many friends, but she only really surrounds herself with a small group of people she would do anything for. She's a quick learner, and is more than willing to help her peers learn. She's a very responsible student and is a stickler for rules. She's very good at pretending (or lying, whichever you want to call it).
Weaknesses: Her biggest weakness is the fact that she's given up already. When her whole world is falling down, Lisette sees the glass half-empty and so the future looks bleak. She's stubborn and full of pride, which means she won't ask for help. She's a horrible teacher with little patience. Lisette is falls easily to peer pressure, and is dependent on others. She follows the crowd, instead of doing her own thing.
Plans for the Future: Lisette hopes to further her studies with dreams of becoming a Healer at St. Mungo's and having a ward to her name. The main thing, however, is that she wants to be happy.
Personality: She was brought up to respect her elders, follow her heart and taught to set up goals for herself. She's learned to embrace both her Spanish and English heritage with open arms. She's also been taught that good deeds are often rewarded and that a friendly smile goes a long way. There are times when Lisette gets shy and quiet. She tends to approach situations with caution, rather than jumping headfirst. She believes in 'safety first' and sticks to the rules. She's been taught to follow them and so she does. She will however, break one or two at times. She'll think about the consequences and weigh out her options before making a decision. If caught, she'll accept the consequences without question.
Oftentimes Lisette will be caught indoors with a new fascinating read or studying for an upcoming exam. However, that doesn't stop her from joining a noisy crowd of people she knows. She's very social and likes to surround herself with people. She has oftentimes been described as 'charismatic' and it's this charisma that makes her such a good friend. Lisette has also been described as a 'sweet girl' and a 'kind friend'. She likes to be involved in her school and friends. There are times when she likes to sit back and reflect on her life. She'll analyze everything and make sure she's on the right path to reach her goals or reminisce on the moments she had with her parents. This is both good and bad. It will sometimes help her get through the day, but other times she regrets words unspoken.
Lisette is fiercely loyal to her friends and is more than willing to fight for them tooth and nail. She sees herself not only as a friend, but as a protective older sister. She will have a shoulder for them to cry on with advice to give. She tries to be honest with them but she knows that some people have their own secrets.
Recently, Lisette's dark side has grown. She's more quiet these days and has become angry. She tries to hide this, and is rather good at pretending everything is fine. The truth is, she's not fine. Her world is spinning out of control and she's lost of faith in herself and the world. She's lost too many times and has given up. She's stubborn, jealous, cynical and very prideful. Really though, she's just broken.
The Background
Family Members:
Andrea Iliana Martinez [41]
Fernando Jesus Rosa [deceased]
Victor Manuel Vargas [43]
Residence: Hogwarts. Having sold her parent's home (she sold it after their deaths) and having left the Victoria household (her guardians), Lisette took up residence at room 512 above the Leaky Cauldron over summer.
History: Andrea was due in early October, but little Lisette insisted on coming out of the womb on September 27 in the year 1960. Lisette was a beautiful baby, though unusually small. She had thin wisps of black hair and large, dark eyes. Her small, adorable mouth was good for a wail in her early days. Lisette was taken home after a month of being scrutinized in the Hospital. Many odd things happened around the small child, and extra care provided. Beatrice de Victoria (her nurse) recognized the signs at once and confronted Andrea. After forty-five minutes of denying it, she admitted of her magical powers. She rejoiced to hear that Beatrice was a witch as well, as was her husband, Andres. The four gathered for dinner and told Fernando that night. He promptly fainted, but came 'round after an half an hour. He was upset that his wife would keep such a secret from him, but everything was great. He had a wife he adored, a beautiful baby girl as well. What did it matter to him if they could do magic or not?
Lisette grew up with the Victoria children. Andrea wasn't ready for another kid, but it didn't matter, since she was surrounded by the growing number of Victorias. When Lisette was three years old, Fernando decided to return to Valencia. A childhood friend was dying, and needed him to return, even if only for a few brief days. It would be the first time Lisette was away from her father. She was doted on by him, and spoiled rotten, despite Andrea's scolding’s. "No te vayas Papi!" ["Don't leave Daddy"] she cried, before he got into a cab. He smiled at his daughter and promised to return, soon. That promise would be broken. It was a rainy day in Barcelona, when his car crashed into another. He died before he could even reach the hospital.
Andrea was devastated at the news of her husband's death. She cried often and hugged and kissed her only daughter. Beatrice and her children were over often, offering support. Lisette couldn't understand why her mother cried so often. She was glad her best friend, Luz de Victoria, was over often but she didn't want to see her mother sad. There would be times when she'd call out to her father. She knew that he could always put a smile on his mother's face, but he never answered her small cries. It wasn't until Lisette was five that she finally understood that her father was gone, and not coming back. She knew the cold facts, but couldn't understand why. She grew cold and jealous. Why did other kids get their fathers? She was a good girl.
She attended a Muggle school and was taught by Andrea to suppress her magic. She was fascinated by it and was ecstatic to learn Luz was a witch as well. At their Muggle school they learned the basics. But she [and the Victoria children] were taught by both Beatrice and Andrea to keep it under wraps. It was a secret that Luz and her shared. She loved it.
When she was eight years old, her mother smiled for the first time in years. It was in the presence of Victor Vargas, a colleague. Victor Vargas was born in England, but like Andrea, had a Spanish heritage. His parents lived in Castilla La Mancha, and immigrated to England in the time of the First Republic. He was born in London and grew up there as well. Like Andrea, he was also a wizard and had attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but was two years older than Andrea.
Lisette was happy for her mother, but she didn't trust this Victor character. She only saw a little of him at first. He would come over sometimes. He talked to her and occasionally drove her to school. Lisette didn't have much of a problem with him, until Miguel de Victoria [Luz's older brother] told her he was going to be her new father. She slapped him for that, and was punished upon her arrival home. Crying, she asked her mother if it was true, if Victor would be her father. It was the first time Andrea lied to Lisette, and she was crushed.
The resent deepened with each visit. Any gift given to her would be broken, or if it was possible, burned. Lisette was angry that he would try to replace her father. She hated her mother for loving him. She could see it in her eyes and it disgusted her. Despite all this, Victor still kept visiting. No matter what, Lisette would do anything to be rude to him. She would be punished for it countless times, but Victor was never disgusted with her. He understood her and that angered her further. Lisette finally gave up, grudgingly though. Victor sat her down and talked to her calmly. He returned the next weekend for another talk, and then the next for another.
On January 14 in 1970, Andrea and Victor exchanged their marriage vows. Andrea changed her name to Andrea Rosa de Vargas and even Lisette changed her name to Lisette Andrea Vargas de la Rosa. But to everyone else, she was Lisette Vargas. Victor assured her it wasn't necessary, but she insisted. After three years, he won her over and she accepted him with open arms. She realized his role, and knew his love for her mother was genuine, as well as for her.
However, Lisette couldn't enjoy having a whole family for too long. Two years later, she entered Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was Sorted Racenclaw. During her first year Lisette was terribly shy at first, making only a few friends. She got top marks on her exams, and returned home a proud student. The following year was much better. She made more friends and was able to get over her timid personality. At Hogwarts, Lisette grew to be quiet social. She had a few boyfriends here and there, but nothing ever lasted. It got better each year and her grades never faltered, except for Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. It was in her 4th year that she set her heart on becoming a Healer and began planning out a path that would lead her to it. Her parents died a few days before last year's holidays. Lisette returned to see them lowered into a grave. It was difficult for her and things didn't get easier. She was put into the Victoria's guardianship, but the house was small, crowded and loud - conditions Lisette wasn't used to. She grew quiet and kept to herself.
Even now, she's at lost with what to do. She's angry, upset anddepressedweak. She doesn't know what to do, and she's tired of pretending she's alright. At the same time, she doesn't want to be dependent of others and admit she has a problem. Until then, she'll keep a straight face and hide the scars.

RP Example:There was something about the first day back that Lisette just cherished. The rolling hills had a vibrant green color. The whomping willow waved with the wind to welcome the new and returning students. Even the rusty steel armor that lined the halls seemed to have an extra polish. Excitement buzzed all around her, enough to make her head spin. The sight of the first year's round, amazed eyes brought a grin to her face. She recalled a younger Lisette, wandering through halls that she had only imagined from her mother's stories. The feast inside the Great Hall brought back a flood of memories that she shared at the tables with her friends. It was almost like coming back home - especially since she had no home to go to.
Her stay with the Victorias - however brief it had been - was a disaster. Lisette could not stand the invasion of privacy, the constant yelling or the strict upper hand of Mrs. Victoria. She was ever grateful to the family for allowing her to stay, but she vowed never to spend another night under their roof. Her summer residence had been in room 512 above the Leaky Cauldron, and that had been quite bleak as well. She hated the loud noises from London's muggle streets, combined with the noises from Diagon Alley. The Spaniard had no idea what to do for the following summer. She abhorred the idea of asking to stay with a friend and hoped she wouldn't have to resort to it.
The Ravenclaw common room was just as she remembered it. Her fellow friends took their usual seats in front of the roaring fire place while the first years stood around, trying to fit in. Already a few fourth years were experimenting new potions or new spells. A few others simply took out a game of Wizard's Chess and were playing one of the series of movements they knew so well. Everything was familiar and nothing seemed to have changed, but it had. Dear Merlin, it had...
As Lisette walked over to sit by her friends, she tugged on her the sleeve of her robe to cover her left wrist. It was covered in the many bracelets she had made over summer (partly to serve a purpose, partly due to boredom). She painted a smile on her face and rehearsed a set of words she'd repeated since Winter. "I'm alright, thank you." "Yes, it was tragic." "I'm doing okay." More than anything, she wanted someone to look her in the eye and call her a liar. It hadn't happened, and the more she continued to say the lies, the more she began to realize that it would probably never happen.
