Carwyn Ifan Jones
"Please speak slowly – my heart is learning."
"Please speak slowly – my heart is learning."
The Character
Name: Carwyn Ifan Jones
Nicknames: Enny
Birthdate: July 1st
Year: 7th
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Blood Status: Muggleborn.
House: Ravenclaw
Canon or Original: Original
The Appearance
Hair: His medium-brown hair just reaches his ears, and tends to spill about his face in what looks like he artfully arranged it, but is really just where it happens to fall. Even if he did try to do something to it, which he doesn’t see the point in, his hair always goes how it wants to instead of how he wants it. Luckily, it likes to fall mostly normal, so he just lets it go.
Face: His eyes are a milk-chocolate brown, and can commonly be found squinting from reading without enough lighting. His nose is long and straight, with a light cover of freckles.
Body & Style: He is tall, about 6’2, and has an average build. He’s slightly muscular but not overly so, and has a thin waist. Carwyn does not dress to impress. The way he sees it, he is only at school for school, and outside the uniform, he couldn’t care less what people think of his clothes and so usually just sticks to jeans, a t-shirt, and trainers. He likes to go barefoot when there’s a soft rug, but for the most part he always has his shoes on.
Distinguishing Features: Nothing about his appearance would set him apart in a crowd. He is very average-looking. However, most times he can be found either reading or carrying a book. Also, when he does speak (which isn't often) he has a very distinctive Welsh accent, and will occasionally slip into Welsh instead of English.
Face Claim: Josh Hartnett
The Magic
Wand: Ash, 13 inches, unicorn hair
Mirror of Erised: Enny would see himself, standing in the den he creates in the Room of Requirement, with Jenny at his side.
Dementor: Being absolutely, utterly alone with not a book in sight.
Patronus: Tortoise, using the memory of walking through the carnival, surrpunded by people, and hand-in-hand with Jenny.

Plans for the Future: Enny has always seen himself taking some type of office job, and once he came to Hogwarts he redefined it to be a Ministry job. He’d be too awkward in a muggle relations position, despite being muggleborn, but he’ll be quite content to settle into a paperwork job, or possibly research. Recently, Enny has been hoping that Jenny will stay in his future.
Personality: Carwyn is a very focused person, and doesn’t see much point in wasting time on activities. The way he sees it, he’s at school to learn, not be social. Sure, he’ll talk with people, but he spends the majority of his time doing his homework and studying because that’s what he’s meant to be doing. He likes to have everything planned out ahead of time and make a schedule, so he knows exactly what’s supposed to be done when.
He loves order and everything having its own place. He keeps his part of the dorm almost impossibly neat, replacing everything away right after he’s finished using it. Carwyn doesn’t understand how people can be so boisterous and chaotic all the time, especially in classes. The library is possibly his favorite place in the castle, at least partly because Madame Pince does not tolerate any fooling around in her library at all.
Carwyn doesn’t like flying in the least. It’s too easily varied, with only the slightest pressure changing your direction entirely. There isn’t enough solid control on a broom for his liking. Even transportation like the Floo Network makes him nervous because of the chance of coming out the wrong gate. After mandatory flying lessons first year, Carwyn has not gotten on a broom once.
Carwyn has never put much (or any) thought into relationships. Right now his primary focus is learning as much as he can, not finding a girl who will undoubtedly distract him from his studies. Besides, with all the loud attention-loving people of the school, who would want a quiet, bookish, semi-recluse? Apparently, one Jenny Britton. He doesn’t understand why she would even look at him twice, but after that fateful day when she made him participate in a snowball fight, Enny couldn’t be more glad to be confused about something.
The Background
Family Members:
Daffyd Jones – Father
Carys (Cooper) Jones – mother
Residence: Welsh countryside
History: Carwyn Ifan Jones was born in Wales in July of 1960 to a muggle couple. They have an average-sized house for their average family. Carwyn’s father is a teacher in the local high school and his mother stays at home.
Ever since Carwyn was young, he kept mostly to himself. Being an only child, he learned early on to entertain himself and not depend on others to play with. His parents would buy him toys for his birthday or holidays, but by far his favorite hobby was to read. There were not many children his age around his house, so the only opportunity Carwyn got for friends was at his primary school, and even then he did not have many. Most of the kids wanted to run around and play games, but Carwyn only wanted to read.
One day, though, at the end of year 5, Carwyn felt someone sit next to him at the lunch table, where he’d been reading while eating his sandwich, like he’d done every day since nursery school. Looking up, he saw a girl sitting there looking at him. Just looking.
“Er, hello?” he’d said, unsure why this girl was watching him.
“You read a lot.” She stated. “What’s your name?”
“Carwyn Ifan Jones. And yeah I read all the time. I like reading. Who’re you? “
“I’m Sarah. I just moved here with my family. You have a lot of n’s in your name. I’m gonna call you Enny, and we’ll be friends, ok?”
Carwyn had never really had a friend before, let alone a nickname, but found that he likes the idea. “Ok,” he said, and the two of them ate lunch together for the rest of the year.
The rest of that year, though, was only about two weeks. Carwyn and Sarah hadn’t thought to tell each other any way to contact the other, knowing that they’d see each other next school year.
That summer, though, came a letter to Carwyn inviting him to Hogwarts. He was sad that he wouldn’t be able to tell Sarah that he wouldn’t be back next year, but his parents were hopeful that going to a boarding school would help Carwyn make friends since he would be living with them. So, with the support of his family, and one last thought of Sarah, Carwyn went off to Hogwarts.
Hogwarts was much the same as his muggle schools, though, and Carwyn still spent nearly all his time doing homework, studying or reading. Now in his 7th year, Carwyn still doesn’t have many people he can call his friend. He’ll always remember the little girl who’d sat down next to him and declared them friends, though.
